Stoke lodge £20m bid to sign contract rebel Saido Berahino as striker looks to force move
Mark Hughes is opening the cheque book as he aims to improve his side's firepower
STOKE CITY have submitted an offer of £20million to land unsettled striker Saido Berahino from West Brom.
The forward rejected the opportunity to sign a new four-year contract at the Baggies and looks set to leave with just one-year left on his current deal.
The 22-year-old, who fell out with owner Jeremy Peace after a proposed move to Tottenham broke down last summer, has been closely monitored by Potters boss Mark Hughes and the Welshman has now made his move.
Crystal Palace are also in the hunt for Berahino after their £30million move for Liverpool's Christian Benteke hit the buffers.
The striker has played a part in West Brom's pre-season starting in the 2-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain before scoring a brace in a friendly match against Kidderminster.
The former England Under-21 player scored just four league goals in 17 starts last campaign although he was often preferred on the wing instead of his favoured striker role.
Stoke have yet to make a summer signing but Chief Executive Tony Scholes revealed that a deal to sign Egyptian winger Ramadan Sobhi was "99% done".
