Digne revealed he found out about Barca’s interest just before Euro 2016— and was determined to ensure the move happened.

He added: “I heard about Barcelona’s interest before the Euros started. From this moment, I had no doubt I needed to move to Barcelona in order to progress.

“I spoke to Mathieu and with other French players.

“I shared this with Umtiti and spoke with several members of the club.”

Digne is likely to compete with Jordi Alba for a starting place— admits he is a fan of his left-back rival.

He said: “He is a modern player, who I greatly admire and I have seen many of his matches.

“We all want to play, but to be a starter doesn’t just depend on me.”
