Jose Mourinho flopped at Real Madrid and blamed everybody else… but he can put it right at Manchester United
Former Bernabeu president Ramon Calderon backs Special One to learn from his mistakes and win titles at Old Trafford

RAMON CALDERON has seen the good and the bad side of Jose Mourinho.
The Special One can work wonders with new players and turn flops into champions overnight.
But there was a glimpse of the flipside to his character last Tuesday when he was unveiled at Manchester United.
The Portuguese launched attacks on Arsene Wenger, Louis van Gaal and Pep Guardiola within minutes of taking the stage.
For ex-Real Madrid president Calderon, it is the unacceptable face of the new Old Trafford boss.
Calderon said: “His character is what it is and sometimes you can’t change that.
“We know his character and sometimes not the right one, mainly dealing with defeat and he is not happy and he is complaining.
“I hope he doesn’t do this in England. If I was a Manchester United fan I would like him to behave properly. He had problems at Chelsea with the doctor and he was complaining in public.
“But I think he will learn from the mistakes in the past and it is a good opportunity to recover the prestige of his new club and win titles.
“At Real Madrid he blamed everyone but himself and that is not good, in my opinion. But he knows how to get titles and to motivate players
“I am sure he will get many good players, big players. With the new ones he is great.”
Mourinho gave a glimpse of what is to come this season when he spoke publicly for the first time as United boss.

AUGUST 17, 2011
WHILE boss at Real Madrid, Mourinho poked Barca’s assistant Tito Vilanova in the eye (left) during a touchline bust-up. He was later banned for two matches over the incident.
AUGUST 8, 2015
HUGE spat with doctor Eva Carneiro after she treated Eden Hazard for a head injury with Chelsea chasing a winner v Swansea
He blasted predecessor LVG’s talk about “philosophies” during his spell at United, then he warned bitter rival Guardiola he is in for a shock in the Premier League.
And it would not be Mourinho without a swipe at Arsenal boss Wenger by insisting “the last time I won a title was one year ago, not 10 or 15.” For Calderon, he has seen it all before in Madrid.
Calderon was chief at the Bernabeu from 2006 to 2009, before Mourinho arrived in a swarm of controversy during his spell with the Spanish giants.
In three years Mourinho won just one title and the ex-Real supremo has previously stated that he felt it was the wrong appointment.
Calderon said: “The problem was his character. You have to accept the good things of people and he has a lot of good things. But he also has bad ones.
“Here in Spain and Real Madrid the pressure is high for everybody — players, coaches and people working for the club.
“And he couldn’t overcome that pressure and did things that you didn’t expect from a coach of Real Madrid. He was not lucky as he only reached the semi-finals of the Champions League but not a final, and he only had one La Liga.
“It wasn’t a good record. But the worst thing was his behaviour. We lived that very unpleasant game when he poked the Barcelona coach in the eye. The reactions when we lost, I didn’t like that.
“But there are also people that think he should be back and they are missing him.”
It was five years ago that Mourinho hit rock bottom in terms of dug-out behaviour.
Poking the eye of ex-Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova, who has since passed away, was too much for even some of Mourinho’s biggest fans.
Now there are hopes the Portuguese can put an end to the controversy and start winning trophies again.
He has landed his dream job and follows in the footsteps of managerial doyen Alex Ferguson.
Calderon expects Mourinho, 58, to be a success at United in the wake of LVG. He said: “The bar is set very low so things can’t go worse.
“I think he will get along well there. He is a very good coach and has proved that at many teams.
“I’m sure they will sign new players and that he can be a success.
“They are not playing in the Champions League and that is the main objective of the big clubs. It is bad for them and that is where they need to be.
“Every coach wants to coach there and he can do that now.”
One of the players Mourinho wants is Paul Pogba. Calderon said: “He will end up where he wants. It’s not a matter of money — both will give the money they ask for.
“So it will be down to the player.
“I have experience of people wanting to come or stay, like Cristiano Ronaldo coming or Robinho wanting to leave.
“The coaches will play their role in speaking to the player and it depends on what he wants.”
Another big job for Mourinho to take on.
