Premier League spending hits whopping £300million in first week of the summer window

English clubs splashing the cash as a result of unprecedented £5billion TV rights deal as they close in on record expenditure

PREMIER LEAGUE clubs have already spent an incredible £300million in this summer's transfer window - and it's only been open a week.

English sides have been quick to look to bolster their squads ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United just a few teams to splash the big bucks.

The move seems to have come after the league signed an outrageous three-year, £5billion TV rights deal - with teams eager to throw money at big names following the windfall, thought to be between £30m to £50m EACH.

As a comparison, last summer Premier League clubs spent £870m during the entire nine-week window.

And with EIGHT weeks left to run this summer and the knowledge that some big-money, post-Euro 2016 transfers - including Paul Pogba - could be on the cards shortly, the league looks set to smash that barrier.

Football finance expert Rob Wilson said there was no doubt the television deal has played a massive part in the 'unreal' spending - adding it looks set to continue long into the summer.

Wilson claimed: "There's no questioning the impact of the TV deal.

"We've seen this trend, over the last two or three deals at least, but we never thought the valuations would go up that much. It's unreal.

In total last season - through both windows - Premier League clubs incredibly smashed through the £1bn barrier, with that set to continue in 2016-17.

This summer, United have strongly linked with a move for their former central midfielder Pogba, 23, for a record-breaking £100m.

The current record stands at £85.3m, when Real Madrid went all out to bring Tottenham's Gareth Bale to the Bernabeu in 2013.
