Wales stars leave Euro 2016 ahead of heroes welcome with open-top bus tour tomorrow
WALES are set for a heroes welcome in Cardiff tomorrow after their incredible Euro 2016 campaign finally came to an end.
Boss Chris Coleman smooched with wife and TV presenter Charlotte Jackson, while Gareth Bale and his team-mates left their Lyon hotel – including James Collins clutching a well-earned beer!
And now the Welsh FA has announced it will be hosting a special event – with rockers Manic Street Preachers playing a gig – for fans in Cardiff on Friday to celebrate their achievements after the team have been paraded around the capital in an open-top bus.
After qualifying for a first major tournament since 1958, Wales finished top of their group that included England, Slovakia and Russia.
They then reached the semi-finals after a stunning victory over Belgium and a last-16 triumph over Northern Ireland.
FAW bosses said the support the national side received in France and back on home soil has been nothing short of astonishing.
Chief executive Jonathan Ford said: “We feel this event is a great way of everyone celebrating what has been a historic period for Welsh football.
“The scenes we have seen both at home and over in France have been fantastic and we hope that our passionate supporters can enjoy another moment with the players to end a memorable few weeks.”
Prior to the event, there will also be a celebratory open-top bus tour for the team from the city centre for the public to show their appreciation.
A sell-out crowd of more than 33,000 fans is expected to cram into the Cardiff City Stadium for the celebration getting under way at around 5.15pm.
