Jose Mourinho must battle Juventus to snap up Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic for start of new Manchester United reign
Old Trafford manager wants to sign his former player if he misses out on a deal for Paul Pogba from Serie A giants
JOSE MOURINHO must fight Juventus if he is to sign former player Nemanja Matic.
The Manchester United boss wants to agree a deal with Paul Pogba from the Serie A giants - but the Chelsea midfielder is desperate to be reunited with the Special One.
Mourinho said in his press conference yesterday that he has one more big name to sign.
And while that is expected to be France star Pogba, he is thought to still be in the market for Serb Matic.
However, Juventus are said to be unwilling to sanction any deal which could see them miss out on Matic to United and sell them Pogba.
The Stamford Bridge side are reportedly eager to hold onto Matic to see how he fares in the first season under new manager Antonio Conte.
Juventus are set to find out if they can pursue a deal for the 27-year-old when Conte officially begins work on Monday.
It is believed that Matic's contract will not expire until 2019 and that Chelsea would look for a fee of around £18million - a £3m loss on the £21m they paid for the ex-Benfica star in January 2014.
