Gabriel, 19, has been touted as ‘the new Neymar’ as he continues to shine in his native Brazil.

The Samba stars have struggled to produce much genuine elite talent in recent years, and suffered the indignity of Copa America Centenario elimination at the hands of minnows, Peru, this summer.

But Gabriel is seen as a beacon of hope for the fallen giants.

Barcelona directors travelled to Brazil and reportedly opened up talks with the starlet while they negotiated a new contract for Neymar.

And Pep Guardiola had ordered Man City to meet Gabriel’s £16.7million release clause.

However, he is now moved to end speculation over his future and will stay with Palmeiras.

Gabriel will represent Brazil at this summer's Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
