CHRIS SMALLING suffered a gruesome gash to the skull after fainting on holiday in Bali.
The Manchester United defender, 26, passed out and bashed his head after suffering food poisoning on the Indonesian island.
A source close to the England international revealed he needed stitches but is on the mend.
They also said Chris and model girlfriend Sam Cooke were left "furious" after hospital staff asked the dazed centre-back for an autograph, before taking a picture of him bandaged up.
The Old Trafford star, who returned from Three Lions duty after being knocked out by tiny Iceland, was left with a deep gash above his right eye and a nasty cut across his forehead.

A United statement read: "A club statement read: “Manchester United can clarify Chris Smalling has had food poisoning during his holiday which resulted in him fainting on Sunday.“The 26-year-old defender was taken to the hospital and is now feeling fine.
“Smalling is currently on vacation following his time with England at Euro 2016 before reporting back for pre-season training later this month."
Smalling was staying at an exclusive holiday retreat which offers relaxation, yoga and massage therapies with his long-term partner.
The Three Lions ace, who has a normally has a vegan diet, is thought to have eaten some bad food, believed to be seafood, and fainted before smashing his head on the ground.
