England fans have their say on disastrous Euro 2016 campaign – Wayne Rooney should be STRIPPED of captaincy and Roy Hodgson the man to blame
THE people have spoken - Wayne Rooney should be STRIPPED of the captaincy after a disastrous Euro 2016 campaign saw England humiliated by Iceland.
And it's bad luck for Sam Allardyce, Gareth Southgate, Glenn Hoddle et al as LESS THAN HALF of the nation believes that the next England manager has to be English.
SunSport and run an exclusive survey of 1,784 people from all ages around the country to find out what supporters really thought of England's performance in France.
The results were damning.
Only 16.65 per cent of those that responded believe England will EVER win a major tournament.
Roy Hodgson's squad have also been slammed for their horrible performance - a massive 70.12 per cent of those polled believing England players are ARROGANT when they play smaller nations and 61.60 per cent stating that England's overpaid, over-pampered stars do not take enough PRIDE in pulling on the Three Lions.
Almost half (48.43 per cent) believes players being OVERPAID was directly to blame for the massive failure at the tournament.
But it's the Football Association who get the most criticism for 50 years of hurt.
A huge 1,335 of our 1,784 people believes the FA needs new leadership and direction, that's 74.83 per cent.
Error-prone goalkeeper Joe Hart gets no respite from the backlash after two massive mistakes cost England.
With Fraser Forster and Jack Butland waiting in the wings only 22.59 per cent believe the Manchester City goalkeeper should not be dropped from the squad.
Just 21.86 per cent believe Wayne Rooney should continue in his role as national captain with 59.81 per cent (1,067 of those polled) believing he should be stripped of the job.
Furthermore, only 45.01 per cent of people believe Rooney should carry on in international football at all - with 31.11 per cent saying no and nearly a quarter unsure.
A tiny percentage (16.65) believe England will win a major tournament and not many more (26.40) believe England have the necessary skill to win a major tournament.
A surprising result saw less than half of those polls believe the next England manager has to be English.
With 44.45 per cent believing the next man taking the poisoned chalice should be born on these shores it is still the highest mark - but 38 per cent say it doesn't matter and another 9.91 per cent want a manager from abroad (8.35 per cent aren't sure).
