NN Consultoria, the agency representing the striker, said in a statement: "The athlete, along with his family, has decided to stay with FC Barcelona and will renew his contract for five more years.

"The contract will be formalised this week. The decision puts an end to speculation about the star's future."

Neymar posted a picture of himself in a Barcelona shirt to celebrate his new deal, captioning the post: "Very happy to continue living that dream."

United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid had all been linked with last season's 31-goal attacker.

Neymar's previous contract was due to expire in 2018.

Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu had already stated the former Santos ace was close to signing a new contract.

But late interest from Jose Mourinho had raised question marks over whether a new deal would be signed.

Mourinho launched an "all-out offensive" to bring Neymar to Old Trafford.

The new United boss gave the green light to an audacious bid for Barca's coveted forward.

The Red Devils have been in the hunt for Neymar since talks of his renewed contract began to stall.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward visited the Nou Camp twice in three months in a bid to materialise a deal for Brazil's poster boy.

But Woodward's bid to land his marquee name never came to fruition.

Neymar signed for Barcelona in 2013 from Santos in a £49million deal.

And he has established himself as part of the fearsome MSN trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and himself.
