Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United: Twitter reacts as striker confirms he will link up with Jose Mourinho
Red Devils fans have been sent into a frenzy as superstar reveals he will move to Old Trafford on a free transfer
ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC has announced he will be joining Manchester United this summer, and Twitter has gone into meltdown.
The nomadic Swede had long been linked with an Old Trafford switch but took great delight in toying with the media as clubs from America and China joined the race for his signature.
However, football fanatics will be relieved to know Ibrahimovic will finally be showcasing his skills in the Premier League next season.
And the United faithful – as well as fans of the beautiful game – are over the moon following the veteran’s revelation on Thursday afternoon.
One fan tweeted: “From James Wilson to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Mourinho Effect!” with another exclaiming: “Imagine Marcus Rashford & Anthony Martial knowing they have Zlatan Ibrahimovic to watch, learn from & be mentored by on a daily basis.”
Others took it as an opportunity to aim digs at rivals, with one elated United fan writing: “@LFC you sign Mane, we sign Ibrahimovic!” and another adding: “United have signed Van Persie, Falcao and Ibrahimovic since Arsenal last signed a striker.”
Meanwhile, pundits have also been having their say on the transfer, with journalist Samuel Luckhurst tweeting: “Ibrahimovic and Mourinho are two [who] are serial winners and thrive on being hated. They’re just what MUFC need.
“Ibrahimovic a shrewd move with Rashford’s promise. Would’ve been rash of MUFC to offer silly money for a young striker when they have him.”
Richard Osman observed: “Zlatan Ibrahimovic choosing Man United over Fulham for reasons best known to himself”, while Gary Lineker added: “Will be great fun having him in the Premier League.”
However, some are remaining sceptical, with one user writing: “So Zlatan Ibrahimovic decided to do shifts on Thursday night Europa League! There is proof. Money can make you do anything!”
A West Brom supporter noted: “Can’t wait for a Tony Pulis tactical masterclass to keep Ibrahimovic quiet. Double up on him with McAuley & James Chester”, with another adding: “One thing is for certain next season is Giroud will outscore Ibrahimovic in the Champions League.”
And the Swede’s United switch was summed up nicely by one observer, who concluded: “Ibrahimovic doesn’t join Man U, Man U joins Ibrahimovic.”
