The sweet smell of success was missing for the Liverpool striker and his England colleagues as they flopped out of Euro 216, causing boss Roy Hodgson to resign.

But Sturridge insists he could not care less what people think of his habit - and even revealed that strawberry-scented moisturiser is his favourite aroma.

The former Chelsea frontman, 26, told : ‘People might think it’s strange, but I like smelling it, so it’s not about what anyone else thinks.

"Fragrance probably shows people who you are as much as your clothes do."
