Euro 2016: England flops held boozy inquest straight after humiliating defeat to Iceland

ENGLAND players held a boozy inquest until 6am after their shameful 2-1 defeat against Iceland.

Stars drank through the night on the rooftop terrace at the AC Hotel in Nice after they were booted out of the Euros.

England’s head coach Roy Hodgson, who resigned after the humiliating defeat, was among those drowning their sorrows at the team hotel.

The players were allowed to let off some steam by the FA after they were beaten by Iceland in the second round in Nice.

And many of the squad took the opportunity to drown their sorrows amid the disappointment of crashing out of the tournament.

It was the last chance for the group to spend time together after almost a month together and the players discussed their frustrations at how they had performed in Nice on Monday night.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn yesterday revealed he found a devastated dressing room when he went to see Hodgson and the players in the immediate aftermath of the woeful display.

Glenn said: I am not a football expert, but when I went into the dressing room the scene was of devastation and personal grief.”

Though players were gutted at the manner of their display, England midfielder Adam Lallana was criticised after being spotted soon after joking and laughing with friends in the stadium.

That mood was in sharp contrast to the rest of the nation who were fuming at being let down by the stars against a team from a country with the population of just 300,000.

The players looked tired and sheepish when they left the hotel early on Tuesday morning, though Hodgson still found time to smile as he boarded the coach.
England stars have previous form for this kind of inquest, after a marathon booze binge on the way home from the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Hodgson’s side were eliminated after just 120 hours of the tournament and many of them spent the entire flight partying hard.
