LAURENT BLANC has been sacked by French league champions Paris Saint-Germain after three years at the club.

Despite signing a new two-year deal in February and leading the Parisians to a 31-point title win, the club's board have decided a new face is needed to fire them to Champions League glory.

The Frenchman will receive an £18.2million pay-off after his dismissal.

Despite dominating domestically during his time at the Parc des Princes, Blanc received heavy criticism for his team's early exits from European competition.

And after another defeat in the quarter-final stage of the Champions League, Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi looked set to swing the axe.

He said after the season ended: "I've been here for five years and this is the first time we have had this sense of failure."

Blanc won consecutive domestic quadruples but it wasn't enough to save his job.

Sevilla boss Unai Emery is in poll position to take over after missing out on the Everton job to Ronald Koeman.

A club statement read: "As the club decides to head in a new direction for the management of the first team, it wishes to thank Laurent Blanc and expresses its gratitude for the work accomplished over the last three years by Laurent and his staff.

"During his three years at the club, Laurent Blanc won 11 trophies, including two national quadruples, and left a significant mark on the great history of Paris Saint-Germain."

Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: "As we embark on a new chapter in the development of the club, I would like to thank Laurent Blanc for everything he has achieved over the last three years, both in terms of the playing style and results.

"I wish him the best for his future challenges.”
