Roy Hodgson wants to carry on as England manager but defiant boss insists he will not ‘beg’ for his job
Defeat to Iceland will raise questions over England hotseat but he says: 'If they don’t want me...that is how that will be'
ROY HODGSON has told the FA he will not beg to keep his job.
The England boss’ future is on the line when he faces Iceland in Nice tomorrow — but he will not plead to stay if told his four years are up.
He said: “I’m not begging for the job.
“I am prepared to carry on. It is different to wanting it.
“If they don’t want me to then my contract will have run out and that is how that will be.”
FA chairman Greg Dyke said last week a decision will be made after the Euros based on how England perform.
But after one win, defeat to Iceland is set to spell the end for Hodgson.
Hodgson, 68, insisted he has no regrets at making SIX changes for the 0-0 draw with Slovakia.
And on pitting his wits with Lars Lagerback, he added: “I am not even contemplating going out to Iceland.
“I will prepare the team. We will do the best we can to win and then we will either be heavily criticised as we haven’t won, or with any luck if we win people will say we did well.”
