Higuain in brutal snub to Messi AND Cristiano Ronaldo as he ranks Lewandowski, Benzema and Haaland above pair
GONZALO HIGUAIN delivered a brutal snub to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as he ranked Robert Lewandoski, Karim Benzema and Erling Haaland all above them.
Messi and Ronaldo are widely considered the two greatest players in the modern era but Higuain clearly thinks otherwise.
Six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi and Higuain combined on the international stage with the pair leading Argentina to the World Cup final in 2014.
Disappointment followed after losing 1-0 to Germany but it was the closest Argentina have come to winning the World Cup since their triumph in 1986.
Higuain has also played alongside Ronaldo twice having reunited at Juventus after lining up as team-mates at Real Madrid.
The players faced each other in the 2017 Champions League final when Ronaldo scored twice in Real Madrid's 4-1 win over Juventus.
"Karim has been in the football elite for 12 years. Lewandowski scores everywhere. And Haaland is a great promise, he is a great forward."
When asked about Messi, he replied: "Well, it's magical. Everything seems natural to him.
"He was born like that, Leo does everything effortlessly. This is what makes him unique."
Higuain has gone from playing with Europe's elite to joining Inter Miami in the MLS.
Things got off to a great start in the United States when he scored a beautiful free-kick on his debut.
But it's not gone perfectly since, with the Argentine being sent off last month for arguing with a referee.
