MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer let rip in a furious, Sir Alex Ferguson-esque rant over his side's fixture pile-up just moments after watching his side beat Everton.

The Red Devils beat Everton 3-1 in Saturday's lunch-time kick-off - a little over two days after slipping to defeat in Turkey.

United lost against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League on Wednesday night, before embarking on the long flight home and getting straight back to training.

Despite beating Everton, Solskjaer was left enraged after he saw Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford pick up injuries.

And the livid boss slammed Premier League officials, saying he believes his United squad have been 'set up to fail', while calling the congested schedule a shambles.

A clearly seething Solskjaer told BT Sport: ";We were set up to fail. The kick-off time set us up to fail.

"We have been to Turkey, played loads of games this season already, we got back Thursday morning and we are playing Saturday lunchtime.

"It's an absolute shambles. These boys deserve better.

"Luke Shaw has got injured because of it. It's a hamstring which might be a long one.

"And Marcus Rashford might be struggling.

"The authorities set us up for fail, who is responsible?

"We've had enough of that.

"Players this season, in these times, a pandemic, mentally and physically it's draining.

"Let us play on a Sunday, there's an international break after this, it's a joke."

However, Solskjaer was quick to deflect praise to his players, despite his obvious anger.

After coming from behind to steal all three points against high-flying Everton, the boss said: "The players were brilliant."

Edinson Cavani - who scored his first goal for the club in the 95th-minute - was also singled out for praise.

Solskjaer added: "Cavani is getting better and better."
