Unfortunately for him, he accidentally ignited the device, severely burning himself and two other fans in the process.

The unnamed supporter, 18, now faces prosecution for the incident in Nice on Monday, as well as facing a fine.

Nice prosecutor Jean-Michel Pretre confirmed: "The supporter managed to burn himself and two other fans."

So-called 'ring of steel' security surrounding the fan zone is supposed to flag up any dangerous items, such as knives, guns, bottles or flares.

But the local police confirmed, their protective measures 'do not currently include bottom scans'.
