England skipper Wayne Rooney looks after lion cub after Roy Hodgson’s side roar back into form
Three Lions return to Chantilly HQ after beating neighbours Wales 2-1 to go top of Group B table with Slovakia up next
WAYNE ROONEY was snapped looking after England’s mascot as the Three Lions returned to Chantilly after beating Wales.
The skipper led his side to a 2-1 comeback victory that takes them ahead of the Dragons and into first place in Group B.
And Roo appears to be the new mane man, charged with looking after Leo the Lion.
Leo was brought to the tournament by Manchester United team-mate Chris Smalling and centre-back John Stones has also taken daycare responsibilities.
That task now seems to have been passed to Rooney – who has dropped to a deeper midfield role and revelled in the extra space he finds.
There are two more stuffed lions on the trip belonging to medical and kit staff, who named theirs Kit Kat.
Roy Hodgson’s side suffered a disappointing draw against Russia in their Euro 2016 opener
And England looked to be heading for another shock result as Wales took the lead through Gareth Bale’s long-range free-kick.
But Hodgson finally unleashed his young Lions and goals from Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge earned a hard-fought win.
The goalscorers and fellow substitute Marcus Rashford livened up the team – leading to calls for a new-look team against Russia.
Having started with the same XI in both matches, Hodgson may finally listen to fans and ditch wayward Raheem Sterling and fatigued Harry Kane.
