Raheem Sterling is a toothless Lion at Euro 2016 so far, but off the pitch he’s a humble kid
Manchester City youngster described himself as 'The Hated One' in an Instagram post after draw with Russia
RAHEEM STERLING is not such a bad lad.
The England forward is on a bit of a downer after describing himself as ‘The Hated One’ on a misguided Instagram post.
Going on social media after England’s 1-1 draw with Russia last Saturday was never a good idea, that is for sure.
Away from the game he is a humble kid, something that came across on a train ride from Manchester to London towards the end of the season.
From the moment he was spotted, he repeatedly posed for selfies with fans from Arsenal and Manchester City throughout the two-hour journey to the capital. It is the little things.
When the train manager inspected tickets, Sterling immediately offered to pay for an upgrade for the other two people sat at the table – one of whom was not even travelling with him.
It was spur of the moment, a genuine and earnest gesture that was politely, but respectfully, declined by the passenger.
Of course Sterling has the money to pay an extra tenner for a first-class upgrade, but this was not a flashy, showy gesture in front of his friends.
He obviously felt it was the right thing to do, but he is also smart enough to know that it does not make him a better footballer.
All it proves is that he is a decent bloke.
