England’s Euro 2016 heroes Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy say they still have to convince England manager Roy Hodgson to start them v Slovakia
Leicester star and Liverpool ace were sent on at half time with the Three Lions a goal behind to Gareth Bale's stunner
ENGLAND super subs Jamie Vardy and and Daniel Sturridge reckon they still have to prove themselves to Roy Hodgson to start against Slovakia.
The dynamic duo were second-half subs for the toothless Three Lions and they tore chunks out of Wales with late goals to win the match.
Vardy snatched a brilliant reflex shot into the roof of the Wales net to level the tie and the Liverpool man - who has been dogged with injuries at Anfield - looked fit as a fiddle as he jinked through the Dragons' defence and poked home off his right boot.
Incredibly both men think they still have it all to do in training to convince the boss that they are the men to get the job done on Monday
Sturridge said: “It's a great feeling. Unbelievable. I am grateful to the gaffer for the opportunity and God for allowing me to score.
“It is a brilliant feeling. It's beautiful to represent your country in a rivalry with another great country.
“It is only one more game in the group, so no-one wants to get too excited but the atmosphere is unbelievable and the togetherness between the two countries here is unbelievable.
"It is great to help the boys win the game, my brother and my cousin have travelled here to the game and it is great for them to experience this."
When asked if his leveller made him a sure thing for the next starting XI, he said: “That’s the gaffer’s decision. It’s my job is to performances as best I can.”
