The Italian, 57, fears Bayern hitman Robert Lewandowski may sign for Real Madrid this summer and he is desperate to find a suitable replacement for the 30-goal striker.

Reports from Germany claim the Bavaria club have already made an approach for Ibra, 34.

United boss Jose Mourinho is still confident in landing the seasoned forward and are in the process of arranging his medical.

But the Red Devils will now have to fight Bayern for his signature.

The Bundesliga giants - unlike United - can offer Champions League football to Ibra and give him another chance of finally getting his hands on the trophy, having never won it before.

But Mourinho, who coached the outspoken frontman at Inter Milan, reckons the lure of the Premier League will work in his favour.

Ibra is currently on international duty at Euro 2016 and will not make any decisions on his future until his involvement in the competition is over.

Both United and Bayern are willing to meet his staggering £200,000-a-week wage demands.
