England vs Russia: Three Lions facing sleepless night ahead of Euro 2016 opener with fan park next door to the team hotel open until 1am
Fan park will host 80,000 with music and partying into the early hours set to disrupt preparations for Group B clash
ENGLAND stars face a crazy sleepless night ahead of their Euro 2016 opener with Russia on Saturday.
A massive Uefa cock-up means their Marseilles hotel is next to an 80,000 fan park — which will not close until 1am, with a music concert and 70s disco scheduled to start at 11pm.
An FA spokesman confirmed: “Uefa allocate the hotels for both teams in the host city.” There are now fears the noise generated will prevent the Three Lions getting a decent night’s kip.
Skipper Wayne Rooney and the squad head south today for Saturday's 8pm Group B clash.
And France’s opening clash with Romania in Paris tonight means that the fan park in Marseilles will now be allowed to open until 1am.
The only consolation is that Russia’s hotel is equally as near.
England scrapped plans for their first-choice hotel in Rio for the 2014 World Cup because Fifa announced the fan park would be nearby.
The FA have no say over which hotels are handed out ahead of matches, although they were able to select their Chantilly base to the north of Paris.
Boss Hodgson has decided that his team will train in Chantilly this morning before flying to the French coast.
