Zlatan Ibrahimovic signs new one-year contract extension with AC Milan as superstar returns ‘home’

AC MILAN have confirmed Zlatan Ibrahimovic is renewing his contract for another season as the legend vows to  help the Italian giants finally challenge at the top again.

The former Inter, Manchester United, Juventus, Barcelona and PSG striker, who will be 39 in October, also wants more silverware.

Ibrahimovic netted 11 times in 20 games after rejoining Milan from LA Galaxy in January, having bagged 56 goals in 85 matches during his first stint from 2010-12.

The 116-cap Swedish icon returned to training on Monday and told the club website: "As I've always said, I'm not here to be a mascot.

"I'm here to bring results and to help the team, the coach and the squad return to where Milan should be.

"We had a great last six months but we haven't won anything.

'I'M NO MASCOT'

"This year I've got the chance to be here from the start so we've got to continue like we were, working hard and sacrificing ourselves to reach our goals."

Leeds optimistically targeted Ibrahimovic after they won the Championship to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2016.

But instead he is staying with Stefano Pioli's side, who finished sixth to qualify for the Europa League.

Ibrahimovic won the Italian top flight six times in seven seasons from 2004-20011 - twice with Juventus, on three occasions with Inter and then once with Milan.

Should he achieve seventh heaven this coming campaign then it might just be the greatest, belated return ever.
