TOTTENHAM are in talks with Dutch whizkid Vincent Janssen after agreeing a £12million fee, according to reports.

Spurs are desperate to sign a striker to compete against Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino sees AZ Alkmaar star Janssen as the pefect fit.

The Holland international, 21, scored 27 goals in 34 games last season as he topped the Eredivisie scoring charts.

Tottenham have been fighting it out with West Ham and Leicester to bolster their attack.

Marseille star Michy Batshuayi is a top target but a £31m price tag may be excessive even in today’s market.

Ligue 1 rivals Lyon would demand a similar fee for Alexandre Lacazette, while Saido Berahino and Callum Wilson would not come cheap.

At £12m, Janssen would be a more astute alternative and claim Spurs have spoken to the five-cap striker and hope to seal a move soon.

Pochettino is strengthening his squad for the Champions League and knows 28-goal Kane cannot be relied upon for a push on all fronts.

Son Heung-min is on the chopping block after failing to get to grips with English football after signing from Bayer Leverkusen.

Janssen has drawn interest from AC Milan and Wolfsburg as well as several Dutch clubs.

But with a state-of-the-art stadium on the way and a boss with a proven track record in developing youth, Tottenham are in pole position.

England fans will remember Janssen – who has three goals in five internationals – scoring at Wembley in March.

He said: “I can look back on a great season. For me to score so many goals and get in the Holland team and also to score against England at Wembley makes it the best football year of my life.

“I am ready for a big step up. To be realistic the big Dutch clubs cannot afford me. That's not because of my wages, it's the transfer fee.”
