NICE ONE SON

Watch Son Heung-min’s Premier League Goal of the Season vs Burnley after sensational 70-METRE solo run and finish

SON HEUNG-MIN has been awarded with the Premier League's Goal of the Season gong for his stunning solo effort against Burnley in December.

With his side having raced into an early 2-0 lead, Son took the Clarets' misery one step further - by scoring one of the great Premier League goals.

The South Korean superstar picked up the ball on the edge of his own penalty area, before embarking on a lung-bursting 70-yard dash downfield.

Leaving a trail of helpless Burnley players in his wake, Son skipped through on goal - before calmly slotting past England international Nick Pope.

Every touch on his route from one box to the other was perfect, and led to his manager comparing the effort to one he witnessed in 1996 - scored by the great Brazilian Ronaldo.

Jose Mourinho said: "Even before this goal, my son calls him Son-aldo, Son-aldo Nazario - and today he was Son-aldo Nazario.

"The only thing that comes to my mind is the goal where I had the honour to be seated next to Sir Bobby Robson, it was Compostela-Barcelona, 1996, and Ronaldo Nazario got the ball behind the midfield line and scored a very similar goal to Son. Amazing goal."

Son, 28, becomes the fourth winner of the award launched in 2017 - following Emre Can, Sofiane Boufal and former Spurs team-mate Andros Townsend.

He also scooped the BBC's traditional Goal of the Season award, which was won by colleague Dele Alli back in 2016.

The spectacular solo effort beat off another of the genre from Jordan Ayew, who notched against West Ham that same month after slaloming through various challenges before hitting the back of the net.

Superb strikes from range by the likes of Fabinho, Kevin De Bruyne and Ruben Neves also came into consideration - as well as Alireza Jahanbakhsh's overhead kick equaliser against Chelsea for Brighton on New Year's Day.

Son bagged 18 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Spurs in the 2019-20 campaign, including 11 in the Premier League.
