Man Utd boss Solskjaer confirms flop Alexis Sanchez has left on a free transfer as he wishes Chilean well

ALEXIS SANCHEZ will finally - and officially - leave Manchester United on Thursday.

The £505,000-a-week flop's horror spell finally ends after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed a deal was done.

Speaking after his side beat LASK 2-1 to confirm their safe passage into the Europa League quarter-finals, United boss Solskjaer was asked about the Sanchez transfer.

The Norwegian said: "I can confirm that.

"Alexis has had a good time over there, he's a good player and we wish him all the best."

Chile star Sanchez, 31, has been on loan with Antonio Conte's side all season and looked much more the player United expected when they signed him in January 2018.

His future now lies in Serie A, with Old Trafford chiefs no doubt relieved to get his massive salary off the wage bill.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta earlier announced his side had signed Sanchez for free with the attacker putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Speaking before Inter's Europa League win over Getafe in Germany, he said: "Unofficially, we’ll make it official tomorrow morning.

"The player is entirely owned by Inter. We have a contract with him for three seasons.

"We believe in him, that he can be a strong part of this squad and are happy to have concluded this deal."

Sanchez's new deal is expected to net him around £135,000 a week after tax.

He cost United £20million per Premier League goal after his swap deal with then-Arsenal man Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

That now has to be seen as one of the worst bits of business in the club's history.

In 18 months, Sanchez, who was signed by Jose Mourinho, managed just three Premier League goals - and five in total.

Solskjaer was desperate to offload him last season but no one was willing to pick up his wages.

Eventually, Man Utd allowed Sanchez to join Inter on a season-long loan.

But even then, the Serie A giants were only willing to contribute around 20 per cent of his wages, at £110,000 a week in total.

In the 49 weeks Sanchez has been in Italy, Inter have paid him just £5.4m, with Man Utd paying the remaining £19.4m in wages.

That means, since moving to Old Trafford, Sanchez has been paid a total sum of £59.3m by Man Utd.

Making a saving on that huge outlay will allow United to go for it in the transfer market.

They appear close to landing England and Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho for around £100m.
