Premier League blow as no players make Uefa’s Champions League Squad of the Season
La Liga dominate group with 15 players while Bundesliga and Ligue 1 are represented in Europe's team of the year
THE Premier League has been dealt a major blow as NONE of its players were named in the Champions League Squad of the Season.
Uefa announced the best 18 to grace the tournament this term and unsurprisingly, with an all-Spanish final, La Liga claims the brunt of the players.
The Spanish league boasts 15 of the crop through champions Real Madrid, runners-up Atletico and quarter-finalists Barcelona.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Toni Kroos are Real’s representatives.
While Antoine Griezmann, Gabi, Diego Godin, Jan Oblak, Koke and Juanfran are Atletico’s.
Barcelona ace Neymar was snubbed behind team-mates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, while Andres Iniesta is also included.
Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski are the two Bundesliga representatives from quarter-finalists Bayern Munich, while Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva is the only Ligue 1 player to make the elite crop — having helped the French giants to the last-eight.
Manchester City battled their way into the semi-final with an emphatic win over PSG.

Chelsea and Arsenal both reached the knockout rounds but lost to PSG and Barcelona respectively.
And Manchester United crashed out in the group stages, falling down into the Europa League.
But the English league’s failure to dominate in Europe once again is reflected by its players.
The likes of City stars Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, and Raheem Sterling were all omitted.
While Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa all miss out as well.
This is not the first time English football has suffered a knock in confidence recently as again, no top-flight players were named in Fifa’s 2015 Team of the Season in January.
