Jose Mourinho phones keeper David De Gea in a bid to keep Spanish ace with him at Old Trafford
New Man United boss is desperate to keep one of his truly world-class players and has asked for a decision in two weeks
JOSE MOURINHO has told David De Gea: Stay and win trophies with me.
SunSport can reveal Manchester United’s manager-in-waiting rang the Spanish keeper in the hope of keeping him at Old Trafford.
De Gea, 25, has a clause in his deal allowing him to join Real Madrid this summer for £38.3million.
He came within minutes of leaving for the Bernabeu last year before paperwork errors saw the move break down.
Mourinho is desperate to keep one of his truly world-class players.
The stopper was asked to make his intentions clear in two weeks.
But indications are more positive about his United future now than under Louis van Gaal. De Gea, who has three years left on his United contract, is now looking forward to next season at United and hopes to enjoy a better relationship with the Portuguese coach than he did with Van Gaal.
De Gea disliked the sacked Dutchman’s goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek but Mourinho will bring his own staff in.
The pair also share the same agent, Jorge Mendes, who is negotiating the former Chelsea manager’s personal terms ahead of his appointment at Old Trafford.
Mendes’ clients Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao signed for United in recent years and he oversaw the transfers of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson and Bebe to United, but De Gea is his only client in the current United squad.
