Chelsea above Manchester United in shirt sales for 2015-16 while Real Madrid are a place further down in FIFTH
Barcelona top list with Bayern Munich in second place while Arsenal are only other English side in top ten coming in 7th
CHELSEA sold more shirts worldwide than Manchester United in 2015-16 — while Real Madrid were only placed FIFTH in a surprise list.
European champions Barcelona were No1 with a whopping 3.637million jerseys purchased by fans around the globe, according to sports marketing agency, Euroamericas.
And, despite failing to reach a Champions League final for a third-consecutive season, Bayern Munich slot in just behind the Catalan giants with 3.312m sales.
It has been a season to forget on the pitch at Stamford Bridge.
But that hasn’t stopped fans around the world flocking to buy Chelsea shirts — with their 3.102m sales putting them at No3 on this list.
And United are placed only FOURTH, despite dominating in recent years.
The Red Devils have sold 2.977m shirts during a disappointing campaign.
Real Madrid may still be in with a chance of completing a remarkable double of Spanish title and Champions League.
But they have dropped to fifth in terms of shirts sold in the past season with a ‘mere’ 2.977m sales.
Arsenal shirts are England’s third most sought-after.
Their tally of 2.055m jerseys sold around the globe places them at No7 on the list — just behind Paris Saint-Germain, who sold 2.212m.
Bayern saw the biggest improvement throughout the season.
The German giants saw an increase of 40 per cent — which is marginally better than Chelsea’s 39.
Juventus shot up to ninth on the list with an improvement of 35 per cent.
Atletico Madrid continue to make great strides on the pitch, playing under Diego Simeone.
And it is showing off the pitch with a first-ever appearance on the list.
United moved down the list despite an improvement of 34 per cent.
While Real’s disappointing campaign off the pitch was evidenced with an improvement of just 11 per cent.
