Manchester United flop Memphis Depay top of the league… for misfiring forwards
And Arsenal ‘star’ Alexis Sanchez isn’t much better after a stuttering season with Gunners
It's no secret that Manchester United’s Memphis Depay has had a disappointing 2015-16.
After moving to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven in a £25million deal, the Dutch forward has struggled mightily in the Premier League.
With so much expected of the youngster, 22, some could argue it’s just failure to live up to the hype.
In fact, in terms of shot conversion, he is the WORST forward in the Premier League, scoring with a meagre 5.88 per cent of his attempts.
No-one even comes close to Depay, with the next players in line hovering around the 10 per cent mark.
That honour goes to Sunderland’s Fabio Borini and Norwich man Cameron Jerome.
But it’s not just obvious flops like Depay that crack the list of the league’s most wayward shooters...
Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez also makes the top ten, despite being regarded as one of the most dangerous attackers in world football.
The Chilean forward is converting only 14.81 per cent of his shots, having scored eight times from 54.
Gunners team-mate Theo Walcott sits on an even more paltry 13.89 per cent while Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony has netted with only 11.11 per cent of his shots.
Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, Bournemouth duo Joshua King and Glenn Murray, along with Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis and Aston Villa’s Rudy Gestede are also amongst the ‘top’ ten.
With so many promising young talents being thrown on the scrapheap under Louis van Gaal — such as Adnan Januzaj — Depay will need to step his game up, and quickly, if he’s to remain at Old Trafford.
