David Luiz set to quit Arsenal next month just year since £8m Chelsea transfer as deal ends and no talks over extension

ARSENAL are reportedly set to lose David Luiz next month once his contract expires at Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian only joined in an £8million deal from Chelsea a year ago in what was widely thought of as a two-year deal.

However believe it was only an initial 12-month contract and no talks are planned to keep Luiz in North London.

Premier League clubs are able to keep players whose deals run out at the end of June but all parties must agree on an extension to the delayed end of the season.

Luiz reportedly earns £110,000-a-week at Arsenal, meaning a one-month extension to see out the campaign would cost around half a million pounds.

According to Sky, the 33-year-old is enjoying his time at the club and wants to stay.

CUT YOUR LOSSES

It is thought that the Gunners are experiencing significant financial problems and could attempt to see out the final weeks without the centre-back.

Dreams of a return to the Champions League remain slight with eight points separating Mikel Arteta's side from fourth-placed Chelsea.

A 12.5 per cent pay cut handed down to the squad was weighted against qualification for the competition, which the club last appeared in over three years ago.

No defender has appeared more than Luiz's 32 games in all competitions, with coach Arteta starting him in every league match since taking charge.

But Sokratis, Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding and loanee Pablo Mari are all set to be available to complete the campaign.

The Gunners are described as keen to make Mari's switch from Flamengo permanent, costing £10m.

Agreements will also have to be reached with Real Madrid and Southampton, respectively, if Dani Ceballos and Cedric Soares are to maintain their loans at the club.

Reserve goalkeeper Matt Macey is the only other senior player out of contract at the original date of June 30.
