Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool to join Bayern Munich in fight for Kai Havertz as Leverkusen look to cash in on star

KAI HAVERTZ is the target for three of the Premier League's big hitters - with Bayer Leverkusen preparing to cash in on Germany's best young player this summer.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have all made their interest known in the brilliant young attacking midfielder who was valued close to £100million before the Covid-19 crisis struck.

Havertz has also been in the sights of Bayern Munich who want to build a new side around him next season - and there has been a belief he was destined to join the Bundesliga giants.

But SunSport understands a switch to the Allianz Arena is far from a certainty and that the option of moving to the Premier League is just as possible.

That gives hope to the trio of top flight teams in England battling it out to convince Havertz, regarded as German football's best young talent since Michael Ballack, to make the move to the UK.

The 20-year-old's current contract with Leverkusen runs until 2022, and the Bundesliga club know they are unlikely to ever be able to get more for their player than they would by selling this year.

With so many of European football's biggest clubs all making their interest known the market would be strong enough to drive a fee up to a high level despite the downturn in the football economy caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been monitoring Havertz's progress for the past 18 months and realises if he does not move this year for the attacking midfielder he is likely to lose out on him.

Chelsea have also identified Havertz, who scored twice in his first game back for Leverkusen post lockdown on Monday night, as a player who could play a key role providing the creative edge from midfield they are lacking in their squad.

Money is available to Frank Lampard with Chelsea perhaps in a better financial position to spend big without the need to sell to generate funds, unlike champions-elect Liverpool.

But if it comes down to straight spending money to tempt Leverkusen, United could be in the best position of all with Havertz routinely watched by their scouts over the last year.

United had been looking at potential options should they lose Paul Pogba, and any decision to follow through with a formal bid for Havertz could rest on the French ace's future.
