Man Utd joined in John McGinn transfer race by Newcastle with Aston Villa set to lose £30m star is relegated
NEWCASTLE UNITED are reportedly poised to raid Aston Villa with a £30million bid to land John McGinn.
The Daily Star claim Steve Bruce is prepared to splash the cash to be reunited with the midfielder, who he signed for his former club for a measly £2.5m back in 2018.
Villa were in the Championship when the Scotland star arrived from Hibs and he was pivotal in their grandstand finish to the season that saw them win promotion through the play-offs.
Bruce had paid the price for a poor start to the campaign but after returning to the Premier League with Newcastle, is desperate to land the 25-year-old once again.
McGinn had been enjoying a fine start to his maiden season in the top-flight before he was sidelined with a broken ankle in December.
Another of Bruce's ex sides, Manchester United, also registered an interest in the Scotland International after he caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Dean Smith's Villa will reportedly fend off any enquiries into McGinn if they can retain their Prem status, but relegation could see them forced to sell.
Bruce famously said of his former player: “He has to be one of my best ever signings because he has the determination to do well.
“From what he has done in the last 12 months, he can only improve… he has done brilliantly. I always knew he would be good, but he has surpassed even my expectations.
“He can go on to become a really top player. I wish I could find a few more like him.”
