She said that she was “fully conscious” of what had happened to her and admitted that she had been lucky.

The superstar's mother also thanked her family, fans and medical staff at Dr Nelio Mendonca Hospital in her native island of Madeira, where she is recovering after a stroke in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Dolores joked in her post, as daughter Katia, who has flown back to Portugal from Brazil to be with her mum, revealed that the stroke had left her with no long-term physical damage.

Ron's sister said: “Very soon Dolores will be back.”

In a few days I will God willing be back to my normal routine.

The mum-of-four wrote: “I just want to say that I’m recovering well.”

She then added: “[I've been] Complaining a lot about being left in bed for hours on end. I know it’s for my own good.

“In a few days I will God willing be back to my normal routine. Fortunately it didn’t go beyond a scare, I’m sober, conscious of what happened to me and certain I’ve been very lucky.

“I would like to thank the medical team and all the professionals who accompanied me from the outset.

“I’m also thankful for the constant messages of support, which my daughter Katia has been keeping me informed about, for the prayers and positive energy from all sides, to my dear son, my nephews and nieces and siblings and friends.

“Dolores will be back very soon.”

Cristiano’s sister Katia, speaking as she left hospital after visiting her mum, told local reporters: “It’s a relief to know that she’s not been left with any damage.”

Describing her as “completely lucid”, she added: “She wants to go home, she doesn’t want to stay in hospital.”

Dolores’ footballer son flew to Madeira by private jet with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and his eldest son Cristiano Jr on Tuesday after being told of his mum’s stroke.

She was admitted to hospital at around 5am.

And regional health chiefs confirmed Cristiano’s mum had suffered an ischemic stroke, which is caused by a blood clot that blocks or plugs a blood vessel in the brain.

The Madeira Health Service said in a statement: “We can confirm the admission of Dolores Aveiro in the early hours of March 3 with an ischemic stroke with a short evolution time.

“This enabled two vascular recanalization therapies to be carried out, one which was thrombolysis and another which was a thrombectomy.

“These therapies are contributing towards improving the prognosis. So far the evolution of the patient’s clinical situation is proceeding as expected."

The statement then added: “It should be noted that a stroke, in its acute phase, always has a reserved prognosis.

“In compliance with general data protection regulation, we will not be able to provide any other type of information about this specific case and its evolution as this is a matter that is reserved for family members.

All clinical information will be made known only and exclusively to the patient’s family, who may make it public or not as is their right.”

Thrombolysis, also known as thrombolytic therapy, is a treatment to dissolve dangerous clots in blood vessels, improve blood flow and prevent damage to tissues and organs.

It is thought to have involved the injection of clot-busting drugs through an intravenous line.

Thrombectomy is a technique which involves the removal of a blood clot from the artery through a catheter.
