MAN UTD RATINGS

Man Utd player ratings: Bruno Fernandes makes solid start at Old Trafford, but hosts fail to get closer to top four

MANCHESTER UNITED's new signing Bruno Fernandes made a solid debut at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils fail to get closer to the top four after a goalless draw against Wolves.

United's £47million January signing finished the first half with more touches than any other Man Utd player and he also completed more passes.

But it didn't amount to much in the end as United failed to close the gap on rivals Chelsea in fourth.

Six-placed United remain six points behind Frank Lampard's men.

Sheffield United sit in fifth place.

The closest United came to scoring was in the final minute of stoppage time when substitute Diogo Dalot headed Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross narrowly wide.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad has taken a blow with several key players out such as Namanja Matic through suspension, Marcus Rashford who is injured, Paul Poga, Alex Tuanzebe and Scott McTominay.

Solskjaer's squad have now only taken four points from five games.

Here's how SunSport's Tatiana Sanchez rated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men...

De Gea - 6/10

De Gea made his 300th Premier League appearance for the Red Devils, becoming the 36th player to make 300 appearances for a single club and the eighth to do so for United.

The Spaniard did well to get a hand on the ball in the 20th minute, as Wolves' Matt Doherty drifted off Fred as he looked to drop it into the corner of the net with a dipping header.

Pulled up a couple of saves but was not greatly tested throughout.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka had a slow start to the game today.

But he picked it up in the second, showing some added energy with his good feet on the 60th minute to open up a pocket of space on the edge of the area. He found Mata who shot just wide -- good effort.

It was the closest United got up until that point.

Overall he was good defensively, but did not offer much going forward.

Victor Lindelof - 6

Made a crucial sliding block in the 22nd minute of the game and overall a steady performance from the Swedish 25-year-old defender.

Harry Maguire - 6

The skipper did not make much of an impact during the game, but it was steady overall display from him with no goals conceded.

Luke Shaw - 7

The left-back played very well especially in the second half of the game.

He managed Wolves' Adama Traore well - who is quick, strong and usually a big threat.

Andreas Pereira - 5

Made two silly passes within the first 25 minutes of the game.

Overall he played an average game and did not offer much.

Fred - 6

The Brazilian was voted January Player of the Month by United fans, beating three of his teammates to the award.

He played all nine matches across January, starting seven of them.

Steady play from Fred against Nuno Espirito Santo's men, but nothing out of ordinary to note.

Bruno Fernandes - 6

United's new signing Portuguese Bruno Fernandes looked at home at Old Trafford, going for goal on several occasions during the first half of the game.

Not many on target, but good for fans to see him having a go.

Fernandes finished the first half with more touches than any other Man Utd player and he also completed more passes.

He also had more shots than his team-mates.

Juan Mata - 6

Shot narrowly wide in the second-half and endeavoured to make something happen but more often than not failed to do so.

Daniel James - 5

Nothing really offered throughout the game. A rather poor performance in my opinion - and was substituted for Jesse Lingard.

Anthony Martial - 6

A tough one for United's only striker through the middle and because Wolves are so compact there was no space for him to run, which is his main strength...running towards the goal!

He looked a little lost at times with injured teammate Rashford out for the time being.
