Newcastle offer striker Dwight Gayle on free loan to Championship sides – but ‘want £20million if club are promoted’

NEWCASTLE have offered Dwight Gayle on a free loan to Championship sides - but reportedly want £20million if the club are then promoted.

The striker, who is yet to score a goal in nine Premier League appearances for the Toon this season, is wanted back at West Brom.

The 29-year-old, who helped the Baggies reach the play-offs last term, has also attracted attention from fellow promotion chasers Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

According to Newcastle will allow Gayle to go out on loan without a fee, but will insist that any club pays his £60,000-a-week wages in full.

The report adds that Championship teams must also agree to pay £20m, in two instalments of £10m a-piece, if they then reach the Premier League.

Gayle's former club West Brom are still keen on services despite Slaven Bilic taking over in the summer and the Baggies top of the second division.

Under Darren Moore last season the former Crystal Palace star scored 23 goals before heading back to St James’ Park.

And SunSport revealed in October that Bilic was keen on getting him back at the club and adding his pace to his table-topping strike-force.

But Newcastle boss Steve Bruce underlined his desire to keep Gayle on Tyneside following the club's 1-1 draw at Wolves.

He said: “I’ve been asked this question time and time again. Why am I going to let him go on loan? And to where?

“It’s not possible, not with the problems we’ve had. I’ve said that from day one.

“I’ve waited for him for two and a half months because he’s been injured, then the team has done OK so he’s found it a struggle to get in.

“He’s not going anywhere, it’s quite simple.”
