His long-term future appears to be away from Stamford Bridge, with Lampard preferring Emerson to the Spaniard.

Alonso has made 14 appearances this season, scoring one goal - the winner in the victory over Newcastle in October.

According to , Inter Milan are leading the chase.

He still has three-and-a-half years left to run on his Chelsea contract, which sees him pocket £100,000 per week.

Inter boss Antonio Conte got the best out of Alonso during his spell in charge in West London before his sacking, which cost the club £26million.

Deployed as the left wing-back, Alonso scored 13 goals across two seasons under the Italian.

They won the Premier League together in 2016/17 and the FA Cup the following year before Conte was replaced by Maurizio Sarri.

And the opportunity to work together again appears to be appealing to Conte, who has stuck with his favourite formation at the San Siro.

Lampard, however, has generally opted for a back four with either Emerson at left-back or Cesar Azpilicueta, with Reece James on the right.

And reports state that the Blues are eyeing up a new left-back.

Leicester and England star Ben Chilwell is a target but almost certainly will not leave this month, while scouts watched Atalanta's Robin Gosens on Monday.

Conte is also in the running for a reunion with striker Olivier Giroud at Inter.

The Frenchman, 33, spent six months with the ex-Italy boss at Stamford Bridge, leading the line in the FA Cup final.

Giroud is out of contract at the end of the season and his time at Chelsea looks to be nearing an end as he is behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the pecking order.
