Chelsea cool interest in Jadon Sancho transfer as signing a striker becomes top priority in January window

CHELSEA are cooling their interest in Jadon Sancho – because bringing in a new striker is more important.

The Blues have enquired about the availability of Borussia Dortmund star Sancho and been told he would cost £120million.

But Frank Lampard now believes there are more pressing areas in his squad to take care of because he already has plenty of wide attacking players to choose from.

Bringing in someone else to take the goalscoring burden off Tammy Abraham is becoming increasingly important and is an area the club want to focus on this month.

Should Dortmund suddenly decide they wanted to sell Sancho this month, then Chelsea’s position could change, but for the time being they are prepared to wait until the summer before deciding whether to make a firm bid.

Olivier Giroud is looking for a move away having been frozen out – and that leaves Michy Batshuayi as the only other recognised central forward at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard has been concerned about the way his side spurn too many chances to win games, and wants another player clinical in front of goal to rival Abraham.

Chelsea scouts have been tracking RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner all season, but the Bundelsiga leaders will not want to sell their 24-goal man any time soon.

Lyon’s Moussa Dembele is another they have shown interest in, and throwing Giroud in as a makeweight would potential interest the French club.

But they would then have to convince the 23-year-old to swap regular football for a fight with Abraham for the starting role and there are no guarantees he would accept such a proposal.
