Man City ‘line up ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino’ to replace Pep Guardiola when Spaniard leaves
MANCHESTER CITY have reportedly eyed up Mauricio Pochettino to replace Pep Guardiola should the Spaniard leave the club next summer.
Guardiola signed a new deal with City in 2018 that keeps him there until the summer of 2021.
But there were rumours there was a “break clause” in the new terms that would allow him to walk away a year early.
This was vehemently denied by Guardiola.
And according to , the club are already preparing for the worst by eyeing up sacked Spurs boss Pochettino as his replacement.
The Argentinian has no plans to take a sabbatical from the Beautiful Game, and is believed to want a return to the Premier League.
But he may have to hold his horses – Guardiola has recently re-affirmed his commitment to City.
Asked about the latest speculation, the 48-year-old said: “Not true.
“I spoke about that a few weeks ago – about my intentions for the club.”
GUARDIOLA ‘COMMITTED’
In late November, Guardiola responded to questions over his future by saying he was ‘incredibly satisfied’ to work at City.
He said on November 22: “If the club wants me next season I want to be here 100 per cent.
“If they decide the results are getting worse then they are going to take a decision, that’s normal.”
And his success has been heralded by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
He told : “Pep has been an incredible asset to this organisation.
“We can speak about his managerial accomplishments for hours.
“But I think as a person, as an individual, as a friend, he’s been a core part of what we’ve accomplished here over the last three years.
“He’s very committed. We’re committed to him. You’ve seen his interview a couple of days ago.
“We have a great relationship. We have a great environment here.
“The people around him, the team we have in place today, the relationships I have with them, this is really an environment that’s conducive to success for both him and everyone involved.
“So I’m very satisfied with his commitment and our commitment to him and I’m looking forward to the continuity of this for years to come.”
