PAUL POGBA has suffered a setback in his Manchester United return after being struck down by illness over the weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hoping to have the record signing – who has been out with an ankle injury for 11 weeks – back in the reckoning.
But the United chief says Pogba is now on the sickbed — and it has ‘set him back quite a bit’.
The news will come as a surprise given that Pogba was in France over the weekend for his brother’s wedding and was seen dancing enthusiastically.
By Monday morning he was back in Cheshire walking his dog and later got driven into Carrington.
But Solskjaer does not expect him to be available for the Carabao Cup clash with Colchester on Wednesday night.
He said: "Of all things Paul’s struck down ill now.
"He's been off for two or three days — three days probably — so that's not beneficial.
"That's probably set him back quite a bit.
"As I've said so many times, Paul's a top, top player that we want to see playing his best football at Man United.
"We just need to get him fit and match fit. It might be half an hour, 45, 60, 90 — who knows, the first game.
"We're working hard to get him back but now he's ill."
United sources insist the French ace had permission to return to his homeland for the wedding celebrations of his brother Florentin.
They say the ceremony took place on Thursday and it was there that he started to feel ill.
We can talk about Paul all day long and it's games like the one against Everton for example when you're lacking that one creative pass or ideas maybe
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
That meant he was not involved in the preparations for the clash with Everton on Sunday and he will still be on the sidelines this week.
Solskjaer has not been able to call on the former Juventus midfielder since the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford on September 30.
His latest absence will only add to the speculation that he is once again looking to force his way out of United in the next few months.
Solskjaer added: "We can talk about Paul all day long and it's games like the one against Everton for example when you're lacking that one creative pass or ideas maybe.
"He has that quality that not many midfielders in the world have so to get him back would be great."
