And Mount, 20, is set to discover the extent of his setback ahead of England’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo later this month.

However, boss Frank Lampard claimed after the match that Mount’s injury may only be minor.

The midfielder could yet feature in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge, with Jorginho, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek unavailable.

Lampard said: “They’ve strapped his ankle and hopefully it’s relatively minor.”

Mount has made 17 appearances for Chelsea this season, scoring four goals while also playing four times for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.

His ankle knock occurred during a thrilling night of European action in West London, with Chelsea fighting back from 4-1 to rescue a point against Dutch champs Ajax.

Tammy Abraham opened the scoring in the second minute – albeit for the visitors with an own-goal.

Vice-captain Jorginho levelled with a penalty moments later though, but Ajax went ahead again on the 20th minute thanks to a strike from Quincy Promes.

Chelsea goalie Kepa Arrizabalaga’s comedic own-goal in the 35th minute put the Dutch side 3-1 up at the break.

And it looked to be game over when Donny van de Beek made it 4-1 in the 55th minute.

However, Cesar Azpilicueta managed to pulled one back in the 63rd minute.
