Man Utd transfer blow as Villa warn off interest in £50m John McGinn… despite Alex Ferguson’s recommendation
MANCHESTER UNITED are set to be rebuffed in any bid to land Aston Villa's John McGinn - despite being given the backing of Sir Alex Ferguson.
That is according to the , who say Ole Gunnar Solskjaer retains an interest in the 25-year-old Scottish midfielder.
Old Trafford chiefs are said to have been impressed with McGinn and how he helped Dean Smith's side to promotion last season.
Man Utd money men are ready to back Solskjaer in the January market despite an awful start to the season.
And McGinn's goalscoring ability - three Prem goals and a hat-trick on international duty - are thought to have alerted the club.
But it is believed that Villa will do everything to keep their man after placing a £50million price tag on his head.
And it is reported that United are aware they will have to wait until the summer for Villa to even think about the prospect of letting the former Hibs man go.
Solskjaer could be forced to wait even though legendary boss Fergie has told the club they should sign him.
Sir Alex has reportedly told United decision-makers they should do whatever it takes to land the ex-St Mirren man.
Bobby Jenks, the scout who helped bring McGinn to Villa, believes Fergie is using his clout to help bring about a move.
Jenks told : "He's up there with the best performing midfielders in the division.
"Wait until he's had a year at that level and then we can say more.
"What I do know is that Sir Alex Ferguson is wondering why Manchester United let a talented Scottish boy slip through.
