But the fully recovered Spaniard could return to first-team action.

He tweeted a picture of used football boots, captioned: "Six months and three days you have been out of service."

And report that Casillas trained alone for between 20 and 25 minutes on Monday.

Porto signed Argentine international Agustin Marchesin from Club America in the summer to be their new first-choice goalkeeper.

But Casillas will be hoping to displace his new team-mate after his incredible recovery.

The 2010 World Cup winner is one of the most decorated goalkeepers to ever play the game.

As well as that World Cup triumph, he has also won two European Championships with his country, as well as five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, two Copa del Reys and one Portuguese title.

He is second on the all-time list of Real Madrid appearance makers.

His tally of 725 is behind only fellow club legend Raul, who made 741.

He also won 167 Spain caps before calling time on his international career in 2016.

Porto currently sit second in the Primeira Liga, two points behind leaders Benfica.
