Watch Man Utd legend Carlos Tevez prove he’s still got it with stunning overhead kick goal for Boca Juniors
CARLOS TEVEZ rolled back the years with a stunning overhead kick as Boca Juniors thrashed Arsenal Sarandi 5-1 in the Argentine Superliga on Sunday.
The 35-year-old was making a rare start for the Buenos Aires club when he reminded fans of his ability that once made him one of the most lethal strikers in football.
The former Manchester United star acrobatically opened the scoring by latching onto Junior Alonso’s looping header with a scissor-kick volley.
Tevez’s age meant he was unable to replicate former teammate Wayne Rooney’s effort by jumping off the ground, but the veteran proved he’s still got the improvisation by firing past Maxi Gagliardo.
And fans on social media had fun at Arsenal’s expense, when it was pointed out that the Argentine’s goal was against a team that shared their name.
One wrote: “Xhaka nowhere to be seen.”
Another said: “Tevez doing Tevez things. Arsenal doing Arsenal things.”
A third added: “Arsenal struggling in both England and Argentina! #EmeryOut.”
“Arsenal struggling so hard they even get relegated to Argentina’s league”, a fourth tweeted.
BOC HOME AGAIN
Tevez’s third goal this season set Boca on their way to a comprehensive 5-1 rout with strikes from Ramon Abila, Frank Fabra and Mauro Zarate.
The result at La Bombonera lifted Gustavo Alfaro’s side to second in the table, equal on points with leaders and fierce rivals River Plate.
Despite turning 36 in February, Tevez could be set to continue his illustrious career in the MLS at the end of the season, according to local reports.
The striker is one of the few footballers to have played for both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and he recently detailed why they’re such different players.
On Ronaldo, Tevez said, per : “He spends the entire day in the gym, it’s an obsession. I remember that we needed to train at 9, I arrived at 8 and he was already there.
“So I tried to arrive at 7:30 and he was already there. One time I did everything to get there before him, I arrived at the pitch at 6:30, but he was already there. He was half asleep but there he was.”
And then on Messi, he added: “Messi isn’t like this, to him it all comes naturally. But for what doesn’t come natural to him, he trains for.
“One time he wasn’t kicking free kicks well, now he puts them all in the corner. He trained and improved.”
