DIEGO MARADONA is considered such a legend at former club Newell's Old Boys that they gave him a throne to sit on while managing their opposing rivals.
The Argentina favourite is currently boss of struggling Gimnasia after landing the job in September.
Maradona only made five appearances for Newell's Old Boys towards the end of his career but was welcomed to a huge reception inside the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa.
A hero among the Argentine people after lifting the World Cup in 1986, Maradona lapped up the applause from all four corners of the stadium.
Ahead of kick-off, Newell's Old Boys handed him a gift of his own throne, a signed shirt and a picture of him playing for the club back in 1993.
Surrounded by security, the 59-year-old signed the padded seat as fans continued to sing his name.
And it appeared that his former club may have shown too much respect for the former forward after they were thumped 4-0 by Gimnasia.
Maradona's side were rock-bottom of the league with just one win in 10 before kick-off but pulled off a stunning upset to leave the manager with a huge smile on his face.
The attention surrounding Maradona started outside the stadium as hundreds of Newell's fan packed onto the streets outside his hotel.
Chanting his name, the controversial boss stepped out onto the balcony, blew kisses to supporters and danced to the lyrics of the song.
An Argentinean TV channel called TNT Sports LA took their coverage to a new level by setting up a 'Diego Cam' that solely focused on Maradona throughout the contest.
They would have seen the legend animated as ever (aside from when he was sitting down) as his side inflicted Newell's second defeat of the season.
