Man Utd starlet James Garner wanted on loan transfer by Preston, Sunderland and Wigan

MANCHESTER UNITED youngster James Garner is a loan target for Preston and Wigan in the Championship.

Both clubs are ready to make a move for the 18-year-old when the January window opens in a couple of months.

Sunderland are also looking at the midfielder as part of their promotion push in League One.

Garner has travelled for Thursday's Europa League clash against Partizan Belgrade in Serbia.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will weigh up whether he will be allowed out for regular games in the New Year.

Alex Neil is willing to take him to Deepdale as he looks to get into the Premier League, while Paul Cook at Wigan is also a big fan of the teenager.

Garner has been taken in Solskjaer’s 20-man squad to face Partizan as injuries to Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have limited options in midfield.

David De Gea, Axel Tuanzebe and Luke Shaw have also missed out but Jesse Lingard has returned.

One thing is for sure, Solskjaer will not want to sell Garner permanently - only to loan him out - as they see him as the "next Michael Carrick".

Earlier this year, the Norwegian said: "He knows we believe in him, we've got great faith in him as the next Michael Carrick.

"I know he's young and I know it's not fair on kids to compare great players like Michael was, but he's the same mould. He plays simple passes through the lines.

"Michael had the pressure of coming in after Roy Keane, so that's just the way it is at Man Utd."

Garner signed his first professional contract at United in the summer of 2018, which runs until June 2022.
