And supporters couldn't be happier that another legendary member of the club's 2012 Champions League winning squad is returning to the club.

One wrote: "All our couches and technical managers are former chelsea legends which is amazing."

While another gushed: "Great to have you back best ever Left back in the world show the back a thing or two then we're sorted good luck Ashley"

While one thought that the 38-year-old should still be playing: "Back up for Emerson, Alonso. Time for JT to join now #CFC".

One wanted even more legends: "Now we just need to get Drogba & Ballack back at the club."

While a different user just couldn't contain their excitement: "ALL MY LEGENDS FINDING THEIR WAY BACK TO THE BRIDGE !!! #KTBFFH".

The club did try and bring Didier Drogba onto their backroom staff, but the Ivorian refused as he wants to head up his country's FA.

Cole was delighted to be back at Cobham and when asked about his ambitions, he told the club's website: "[I want] To try and be the best, you know, as you mentioned I always wanted to kind of keep that level as a player high and it's definitely different and difficult at times to switch off and be a coach.

"Hopefully I can you know... give that motivation and that desire to these young kids.

"And hopefully in five years - three, four, five years who knows, I hope to be another top manager like, people like Frank.

"And I say a top manager - yes he's just gotten into the job but for me what he's done has been brilliant. So yeah I want to emulate people like Frank and obviously JT coaching at the minute... we'll see."
