MANCHESTER UNITED have come out fighting in defence of under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Club chief Ed Woodward and owners the Glazers are 100 per cent behind him — and that will not change even if they lose to rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

Boss Solskjaer has won just five of 23 games and United now sit two points off the drop zone.

But executive vice-chairman Woodward, in a dig at the club’s previous managers, said: “Ole has instilled discipline where we may have lacked it in recent years.

“He is building a squad that respects the club’s history, in which players work hard and respect their team-mates. No one is bigger than the club.

“The changes over the summer resulted in a very young squad.

“But it’s also a squad that provides a base camp for us to grow as we start our new journey.”

Woodward has faced horrendous flak over United’s fall from grace.

But he said: “Ole’s vision maps our objectives.

"We must win trophies, play attacking football and give youth its chance.

“The middle of last season, after Ole’s arrival, shows where we want to be. We saw a team playing fast, fluid football.”
