ANDERLECHT have been fined £4,315 by the Belgian FA for appointing Vincent Kompany as head coach when he did not have the required qualifications.

The Man City legend was given the job on a player-coach basis in May but now the decision has come back to haunt the Belgian club.

The Belgian First Division A requires all head coaches to hold a UEFA Pro licence which the City ace does not have.

Anderlecht tried to squirm out of the charge by insisting ex-Man City academy chief Simon Davies was the head coach.

But the Belgian FA were having none of it and used Anderlecht's own statements and video content against them from when they announced the veteran centre-half.

The governing body also slammed the club for the disdain shown towards regulation compliance.

A statement read: "The club violated the regulations for a long time and despite that it being against the rules did not hesitate to publicly unveil a coach without a diploma."

Kompany has managed just two wins from ten since he joined and Anderlecht lie 13th - just three places of bottom.

Frank Vercauteren has been officially named as head coach since the debacle.

But the club said he would only be in charge on matchdays suggesting Kompany is still the overall boss.
